Preparation

  • Gather all the necessary ingredients. Dice the onion, mince the garlic, and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Cooking

  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef along with the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the meat is browned and fully cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce into the meat mixture. Mix thoroughly and allow to start bubbling slightly at the edges.
  • Season the bubbling mix with sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir and let the flavors combine for a few minutes.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Add the cooked elbow macaroni to the pot and stir until fully coated with the sauce.
  • Let the goulash simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

Serving

  • Scoop portions into bowls and top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

Storing American Goulash is easy! Let leftovers cool completely before transferring to an airtight container. Can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for 2-3 months.
