For the Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup warm milk
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg

For the Apple Filling

  • 2 medium-sized apples peeled, cored, and diced
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Cheesecake Filling

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 0.25 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

For the Crumble Topping

  • 0.5 cup rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter cold and diced

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Gather all the ingredients and clear a workspace.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Gradually add warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients to form a dough.
  • Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
  • Prepare the apple filling by mixing diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • In another bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and egg until smooth.
  • For crumble topping, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and cold butter until crumbly.

Assembly and Baking

  • Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle and spread cheesecake filling, then apple filling.
  • Roll tightly into a log, slice into 12 pieces, and place in a greased baking dish.
  • Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake buns for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Whisk together glaze ingredients and drizzle over warm buns before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the microwave for best results.
