Ingredients
  

Brown Butter Cake

  • ½ cup unsalted butter browned and slightly cooled
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup apple peeled and diced
  • ¾ cup dates pitted and chopped
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch cake pan.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat until browned and fragrant. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  • Whisk brown sugar and granulated sugar into the brown butter, then add eggs and vanilla until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients alternately with milk, mixing just until combined.
  • Fold in diced apples and chopped dates, then spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool before serving.

Notes

This cake tastes even better the next day as the flavors deepen. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
