Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar packed
  • ¾ cup buttermilk or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups tart apple peeled and diced
  • ¼ cup pecans or walnuts optional, chopped
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 2-3 tbsp milk for glaze
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract for glaze

Instructions
 

  • Preheat and grease your waffle iron.
  • In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, whisk eggs, sugars, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  • Fold in diced apples and optional nuts.
  • Spoon batter into the waffle iron and cook until golden brown.
  • Cool slightly on a wire rack.
  • Prepare glaze by whisking powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Drizzle glaze over donuts and serve warm.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for 2–3 days. Freeze without glaze for longer storage.
