  • 1 whole whole turkey (12-14 lbs)
  • ½ cup soy sauce Use tamari for gluten-free
  • cup honey Maple syrup can be used for vegan option
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Can substitute with coconut or avocado oil
  • ¼ cup green onions, chopped For garnish

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Whisk everything together until well blended.
  • Rinse the turkey under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.
  • Rub the marinade generously all over the turkey, including the cavity.
  • Let the turkey sit at room temperature for 30-60 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).

Cooking

  • Place the turkey in a roasting pan and cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Roast for 2.5 to 3 hours.
  • Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes to allow the skin to crisp.
  • Baste the turkey with pan juices every 30 minutes.
  • Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should read 165°F (75°C) when fully cooked.
  • Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

Notes

This turkey pairs beautifully with stir-fried vegetables, rice, and Asian slaw. Use the pan drippings to create a delicious gravy.
