Ingredients
  

For the Chocolate Cake

  • 1 box box or recipe of chocolate cake mix Or homemade if preferred

For the Chocolate Pudding

  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk Or as specified on the pudding box

For the Cherries

  • 1 can of cherries in syrup Or 1 cup fresh cherries, pitted

For the Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ΒΌ cup powdered sugar Optional, for sweetening

For Garnish

  • to taste dark chocolate shavings or chocolate curls

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Prepare the chocolate cake according to the package instructions or a homemade recipe. Bake and allow to cool completely.
  • In a medium bowl, prepare the chocolate pudding by combining the pudding mix with the milk. Whisk until smooth and let it set as directed.
  • Once the cake is cool, cut it into small cubes.
  • Choose a trifle bowl or individual dessert glasses for assembly.

Assembly

  • Layer the bottom of the trifle dish with chocolate cake cubes.
  • Pour a layer of chocolate pudding over the cake cubes.
  • Add a layer of cherries on top of the pudding.
  • Spread a layer of whipped cream over the cherries.
  • Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with whipped cream on top.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings and additional cherries if desired.

Chilling

  • Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Avoid freezing the assembled trifle.
