  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Glaze

  • 1 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons blood orange juice Adjust for desired consistency.

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients. Ensure the butter is softened.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

Making the Cake

  • Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  • Stir in the fresh blood orange juice, zest, and vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stir until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Making the Glaze

  • Whisk powdered sugar and blood orange juice together until smooth.
  • Drizzle over the cooled cake.
