  • ¼ cup bourbon Skip for a family-friendly version.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic recommended.
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced Fresh ginger preferred.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil Can substitute with olive oil or sesame oil.
  • 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish) Fresh garnish adds a nice touch.

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and kitchen tools: a large skillet, a whisk, a cutting board, and a knife.
  • Chop the chicken into bite-sized pieces and mince the garlic and ginger.
  • Measure out the soy sauce, brown sugar, and bourbon.

Cooking

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the chicken pieces and cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, bourbon, garlic, and ginger to prepare the sauce.
  • Pour the sauce over the cooked chicken and stir to coat all pieces evenly.
  • Allow the dish to simmer on low heat for 5 to 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust sweetness or flavor if necessary before serving.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

Bourbon Chicken is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for 3-4 days in the fridge or frozen for up to 3 months.
