Brown Butter Filling

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and cook until it turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Transfer the browned butter to a mixing bowl and allow it to cool to room temperature.
  • Add powdered sugar gradually, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until light and fluffy.
  • Use immediately as a cake filling or refrigerate until ready to use, then re-whip before spreading.

Notes

Be careful not to burn the butter when browning. This filling pairs especially well with vanilla, chocolate, or spice cakes.
