For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder for chocolate variation
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk can substitute with almond milk + vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • a pinch salt
  • food coloring optional for decorating

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients together. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy. Gradually add the sugar and mix until light and creamy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Finally, stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Alternate adding the mixed dry ingredients with buttermilk into the creamed butter mixture, starting and finishing with the dry ingredients.
  • Divide the batter between greased cake pans and gently tap the pans on the counter to remove air bubbles.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cooling and Decorating

  • Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Frost and decorate with your favorite frosting or ganache, using fresh berries or edible flowers for an elegant touch.

Serving

  • Slice the cake into pieces and serve to your loved ones, enjoying the flavors and smiles it brings.

Notes

Store the cake at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days. You can freeze slices wrapped tightly for up to 3 months. For variations, consider red velvet, carrot, or rose-flavored cakes.
