  • 4 large sweet potatoes Peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch rounds.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Can be substituted with maple syrup or coconut sugar.
  • ¼ cup butter Can be replaced with coconut oil for dairy-free.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup water

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Peel and slice each sweet potato into 1/2-inch thick rounds.

Mixing Base

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until well combined.

Coating Sweet Potatoes

  • Add the sweet potato rounds into the brown sugar mixture and toss gently until well-coated.

Baking

  • Arrange the coated sweet potatoes in a single layer in a baking dish.
  • Pour the water over the sweet potatoes.
  • Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes to caramelize the top.
  • Check for doneness with a fork; they should be fork-tender.

Serving

  • Let them cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding vanilla extract or garnishing with chopped pecans. Avoid overcooking to maintain texture.
