For the cake

  • 2 cans apple pie filling
  • 1 box yellow cake mix Can substitute with spice or white cake mix.
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted Can substitute with margarine or coconut oil.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Additional cinnamon can be added for extra flavor.
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional) Nuts can be skipped or substituted with seeds for allergies.
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream For serving, optional.

Preparation

  • Start by clearing off your kitchen counter. Gather all your ingredients, measuring tools, and a large bowl.
  • Using either cooking spray or a little melted butter, grease the inside of the crockpot.
  • Open the cans of apple pie filling and pour the contents into the crockpot. Spread them evenly across the bottom.
  • Drizzle the caramel sauce generously over the apple filling.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the yellow cake mix with the melted butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the apple and caramel layers in the crockpot.
  • If using nuts, sprinkle them on top of the cake mixture now. Add the teaspoon of cinnamon.
  • Cover the crockpot with a lid and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours.
  • After cooking, let the cake cool for at least 15-20 minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

This cake can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge. Use homemade apple filling for added freshness.
