Ingredients

For the trifle

  • 2 pieces frozen classic pound cakes (10.75 ounces each), cut into bite-size cubes
  • 4 cups cold whole milk
  • 2 boxes instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 ounces each)
  • 2 cans apple pie filling (21 ounces each)
  • 1 container thawed whipped topping (8 ounces)
  • 1 jar caramel sundae topping (12.25 ounces)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, divided

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by gathering all your necessary ingredients on the counter. Ensure your pound cake is completely frozen as this makes cutting it into cubes much easier.
  • Slice both frozen pound cakes into small, even cubes. Make sure they are bite-sized for easy serving. Reserve any extra cubes for another use.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the 4 cups of cold whole milk. Sprinkle both boxes of instant vanilla pudding mix evenly over the milk.
  • Using a handheld mixer on medium-low speed, blend the milk and pudding together until it begins to thicken, about 2 minutes.

Assembly

  • In a 3-quart trifle bowl, arrange a layer of pound cake cubes on the bottom for an even foundation.
  • Spread half of the prepared vanilla pudding mixture evenly over the pound cake cubes.
  • Spoon one can of apple pie filling evenly over the pudding layer.
  • Drizzle half of the caramel sundae topping over the apple pie filling.
  • Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the chopped pecans on top of the caramel layer.
  • Repeat the layering process with a second layer of pound cake cubes, the remaining vanilla pudding, and the second can of apple pie filling.

Finishing Touches

  • Cover the assembled trifle and refrigerate for at least 3 hours to allow flavors to meld.
  • Just before serving, spread the thawed whipped topping over the chilled trifle. Drizzle with the remaining caramel topping and sprinkle with the rest of the chopped pecans.
