Ingredients

For the Bake

  • 1 loaf French bread, cubed Use fresh, soft bread for the best texture.
  • 6 large eggs Can substitute with flax eggs for a vegan version.
  • 2 cups milk Use almond or oat milk for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped Can substitute with walnuts or other nuts.
  • 1 cup caramel sauce Store-bought or homemade.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by gathering all necessary ingredients.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Cube the French bread into bite-sized pieces and chop the pecans.

Assembly

  • Place the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring every piece is soaked.
  • Let the mixture soak for about 30 minutes, allowing the bread to absorb the flavors.
  • Sprinkle the chopped pecans and drizzle the caramel sauce over the mixture.

Baking

  • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm, drizzled with extra caramel sauce.
