Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  • Cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in vanilla extract until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, frost with your favorite frosting and decorate with sprinkles or fruit as desired.

Notes

For a chocolate variation, replace half of the flour with cocoa powder. You can also add lemon or orange zest for a fresh twist. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. This cake freezes well for up to 2 months.
