For the Cream Mixture

For the Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded cheese (such as cheddar or Gruyere) Different cheeses can be used for flavor variation.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Dot on top before baking.

For Garnish

  • Fresh herbs to taste parsley or dill For garnish before serving.

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and wash the potatoes thoroughly.
  • Slice the potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Layering

  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a baking dish.
  • In a bowl, mix the heavy cream with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
  • Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the cream-covered potatoes.
  • Repeat layering with the remaining sliced potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.

Baking

  • Dot the top with butter and cover with foil.
  • Bake for 45 minutes covered.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.

Serving

  • Once baked, allow to cool for a few minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider adding bacon or vegetables between the layers. Ensure to let the dish rest before serving to help layers set.
