  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Adds a gooey texture when melted.
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 egg egg Acts as a binder for the meat mixture.

Vegetables and Seasonings

  • ½ cup onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Can use fresh garlic as an alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

Casserole Base

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 cup marinara sauce

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Chop the onion and measure out the milk, breadcrumbs, and cheese.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, shredded cheddar, milk, egg, diced onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.

Shaping

  • Transfer the meat mixture to a greased casserole dish. Shape the mixture into a loaf for even cooking.

Adding Sauce

  • Top the meatloaf with marinara sauce, spreading it evenly over the surface.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole for 45 minutes until cooked through.

Cheese Topping

  • Remove the casserole, sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top, and return to the oven for another 10 minutes.

Serving

  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

To store leftovers, transfer to an airtight container. It lasts 3-4 days in the fridge. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months.
