  • 4 large large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream Can substitute with half-and-half or coconut cream
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese Use high-quality cheese for best flavor
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese Can mix with other cheese types
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice your potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Grease a baking dish with 2 tablespoons of butter.

Layering

  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle half of your minced garlic over the potatoes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Top with half of the grated cheddar and Gruyere cheeses.
  • Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, garlic, salt, pepper, and cheeses.

Baking

  • Pour the heavy cream over the entire dish.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to create a golden brown top.

Serving

  • Let it sit for a few minutes before cutting into squares and serving warm.

Notes

You can customize by adding vegetables like spinach or by using different cheese varieties.
