  • 1 32-ounce bag Frozen hash browns (thawed)
  • 1 can Cream of chicken soup (10.5 ounces) Can be substituted with cream of mushroom soup for a vegetarian option.
  • 1 cup Sour cream Substitute with lactose-free or dairy-free options if needed.
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese Other cheese types can be used for variation.
  • ½ cup Butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 1 cup Cornflakes or crushed crackers (optional for topping)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and thoroughly thaw the hash browns.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, melted butter, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined without overly mashing the potatoes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and pour the potato mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.
  • If using cornflakes or crackers, crush them lightly and mix them with a bit of melted butter for the topping. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the potato mixture.

Baking

  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  • After 45 minutes, insert a toothpick in the center. If it comes out clean, your dish is ready.

Serving

  • Once done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Dish out generous portions and enjoy alongside your favorite entrées.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. For freezing, wrap tightly and it can last up to two months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 20-25 minutes.
