  • 8 oz thick-cut ham slices, diced

  • 1 cup heavy cream Can be substituted with half-and-half or dairy-free alternative.
  • ½ cup chicken broth Vegetable broth works well for vegetarian version.
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard sauce
  • 1 ½ cups panko breadcrumbs Use crushed cornflakes or gluten-free breadcrumbs for gluten-free version.
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp paprika

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, toss the bite-sized pieces of chicken with thyme, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Evenly distribute the seasoned chicken at the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the diced ham over the chicken.

Making the Sauce

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, chicken broth, and Dijon mustard.
  • Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the chicken and ham layers.

Layering

  • Spread the shredded Swiss cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  • In another bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, melted butter, grated Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder. Mix until the breadcrumbs are well-coated.
  • Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture generously over the Swiss cheese layer.
  • Cover the dish with foil.

Baking

  • Place the covered casserole in your preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  • Ensure the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can incorporate vegetables like spinach or broccoli for added nutrition. Mix different cheeses for enhanced flavors. Broil for an extra crispy topping if desired.
