Ingredients
  

For the Brownies

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Mousse

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

For the Ganache (Optional)

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, melt the butter and stir in the sugar until combined.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Finally, mix in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, stirring until just blended.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, testing with a toothpick.
  • Cool the brownies completely in the pan.

Making the Mousse

  • Heat heavy cream in a saucepan to a gentle simmer. Remove from heat and add chopped chocolate, stirring until melted.
  • Fold in powdered sugar until well combined.

Assembly

  • Spread the mousse evenly over the cooled brownies and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • For the ganache, melt heavy cream and chopped chocolate over low heat until smooth; pour over the mousse layer.
  • Refrigerate until set.

Notes

Store brownies in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days; freeze for up to 3 months with proper wrapping.
