For the Cake Base

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Milk Mixture

  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • ½ cup whole milk

For the Topping

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and measure them out.
  • Ensure eggs are at room temperature.

Baking the Cake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for about 25-30 minutes.
  • Check if done by inserting a toothpick; it should come out clean.

Cooling and Soaking

  • Once baked, let the cake cool completely in the pan.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk.
  • Poke holes in the cooled cake with a skewer and pour the milk mixture evenly over the top.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight.

Topping and Serving

  • Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  • Spread or pipe whipped cream on top of the chilled cake.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder.
  • Slice and serve the cake.

Notes

This cake is best made the day before serving to enhance flavor. Avoid skipping the soaking step for the best results.
