Ingredients
  

For the Pie

  • 1 can (21 oz) apple pie filling Use your favorite brand.
  • 1 package refrigerated cinnamon rolls with frosting Reserve the frosting for topping.
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped or sliced Choose a variety such as Granny Smith or Golden Delicious.
  • cup sugar Can be substituted with brown sugar or a sugar alternative.
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons butter Can be substituted with coconut oil for dairy-free options.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Plus 1 teaspoon for later.
  • 2 tablespoons additional water For cornstarch mixture.

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and tools including a large mixing bowl, pie dish, and spatula. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Open the package of cinnamon rolls and reserve the frosting. Roll out the cinnamon rolls in a pie dish, pinching the seams together to form a solid crust, covering the sides.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the apple pie filling, chopped apples, sugar, cinnamon, 3 tablespoons of water, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Stir until combined.
  • Spoon the apple mixture into the prepared cinnamon roll crust and spread it evenly.
  • Cut the remaining cinnamon rolls into smaller pieces and distribute them over the apple filling.

Baking

  • Bake your pie in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cover edges with aluminum foil if they brown too quickly.
  • While the pie bakes, prepare a cornstarch slurry by mixing the additional teaspoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water.
  • Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and drizzle the cornstarch slurry for a glaze. Top with reserved frosting from the cinnamon roll package.

Serving

  • Slice the pie into pieces and serve warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Allow pie to cool slightly before slicing for cleaner pieces. Best enjoyed warm. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
