Ingredients
  

Kolache Dough

  • 1 cup milk warm
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt

Filling

  • 1 cup fruit jam any flavor
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Mix melted butter and eggs into the yeast mixture.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the wet ingredients and knead until smooth.
  • Cover the dough and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Divide dough into 12 balls. Flatten slightly and make an indentation in the center.
  • Fill each indentation with jam and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.

Notes

You can use cream cheese or poppy seed filling for a traditional variation.
