  • 8 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked crispy Adds flavor and crunch.
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese Can be substituted with mozzarella or dairy-free cheese.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For searing the chicken.

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and ensure the chicken breasts are thawed and patted dry.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Searing the Chicken

  • Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and ground black pepper.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Once hot, add the seasoned chicken breasts and sear for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Baking

  • Transfer the seared chicken to a baking dish.
  • Brush each chicken breast generously with smoky barbecue sauce.
  • Layer 2 slices of crispy bacon over each chicken breast.
  • Top with an ample amount of shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Check the internal temperature of the chicken with a meat thermometer; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
  • Once done, remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. For best results, reheat at 350°F (175°C) covered with foil for 15 to 20 minutes.
