  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and ensure the butter is completely softened.
  • Zest the oranges and have the egg ready.

Mixing Dough

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, orange zest, and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.

Combining Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

Baking

  • Using a tablespoon, drop portions of the dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden on the edges but soft in the center.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Once cooled, frost the cookies with orange frosting if desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For freezing, stack in layers separated by parchment paper.
