Preparation

  • Begin by gathering and prepping your ingredients. Rinse the small potatoes thoroughly under cold water.
  • In a large pot, fill it with water and add some salt. Bring the water to a rolling boil before adding the potatoes.
  • Let them boil for about 15-20 minutes or until they are fork-tender.
  • Carefully drain them in a colander and allow to cool slightly.
  • Transfer the slightly cooled potatoes to a clean surface. Using a glass, fork, or potato masher, gently smash each potato to about half an inch to one inch thickness.

Cooking

  • Brush both sides of the smashed potatoes with olive oil. Season generously with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  • Arrange the smashed potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Air fry for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through to achieve an even golden color.
  • Once cooked, remove from air fryer and garnish with chopped fresh herbs, if desired.

Notes

For best results, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket and ensure potatoes are smashed to the right thickness for optimal crispiness. Let them cool before storage.
