For the Chicken

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup flour
  • to taste salt and pepper

For the Sauce

  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Zest of 1 orange

Preparation

  • Start by gathering and preparing all your ingredients. Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a mixing bowl, season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
  • Dredge each piece of chicken in cornstarch.
  • Dip each piece in the beaten eggs.
  • Coat the chicken in flour thoroughly.

Cooking

  • In a deep pan, heat oil over medium heat until it reaches approximately 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  • In a separate saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes, and orange zest.
  • Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  • Toss the crispy cooked chicken in the sauce until well coated.

Serving

  • Serve hot, garnished with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Crispy Orange Chicken pairs well with rice, noodles, or a side salad. Adjust the recipe to your taste, making it spicier or sweeter.
