Ingredients

For the Steak Strips

  • 1 pound Flank steak, sliced into thin strips Ensure the steak is partially frozen for easier slicing.
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 2 Large Eggs Beaten.
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch) Can substitute with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon Smoked paprika

For the Savory Tartar Cream

  • ½ cup Mayonnaise Can substitute with vegan mayo.
  • 2 tablespoons Dill pickles, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Capers, rinsed and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by slicing the flank steak into thin strips, about 1 inch wide.
  • Gather your other ingredients to ensure a smooth cooking process.

Breading Station

  • Set up your breading station by placing three shallow dishes: one for flour mixed with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika; one for beaten eggs; and the last for breadcrumbs.

Bread the Steak Strips

  • Take a steak strip and coat it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour.
  • Dip it into the beaten eggs until fully coated, then transfer it to the breadcrumbs. Press gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere well.

Frying

  • In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Carefully place the breaded steak strips into the hot oil without overcrowding the pan.
  • Fry in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the crispy steak strips from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Prepare the Savory Tartar Cream

  • In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, chopped dill pickles, capers, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and fresh parsley. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

Serve

  • Arrange the crispy steak strips on a serving platter alongside a bowl of savory tartar cream. Garnish with additional parsley.

Notes

For best results, allow leftover crispy steak strips to cool completely before storing. The tartar cream can be stored separately.
