  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Softening the butter is crucial for mixing.
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg Can substitute with flaxseed mixture for egg-free.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract Can use other extracts for flavor variations.

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients including flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and extracts.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter and sugar mixture, and mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake cookies for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool before decorating.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Freeze for longer storage.
