Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup heavy cream adds richness and a lovely texture
  • 1 cup milk balances the heaviness of the cream
  • ½ cup sugar sweetens the custard
  • ¼ cup cornstarch thickens the custard
  • 4 large egg yolks adds richness and structure
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract adds flavor and warmth
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced
  • rose petals optional, for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Gather and measure all ingredients to ensure smooth preparation.
  • In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, and sugar. Heat gently over medium-low heat until warm, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together cornstarch and egg yolks until smooth.
  • Gradually pour the warm cream mixture into the egg yolks while whisking constantly to temper the eggs and avoid curdling.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, whisking until thickened, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Transfer the custard to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap touching the surface, and let cool before refrigerating.
  • Prepare strawberries by washing, hulling, and slicing them. Mix with a little sugar if desired.
  • In a trifle dish or serving glasses, layer custard and strawberries alternately, finishing with custard.
  • Chill for at least 2 hours before serving. Garnish with rose petals or extra strawberries.

Notes

Use firm, fresh strawberries for the best texture. For a dairy-free version, replace milk and cream with coconut milk. The dessert keeps well for 3–4 days in the refrigerator but should not be frozen.
