  • Meat Thermometer
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Tongs
  • Foil or Grill Tray

Ingredients

Camping Turkey and Stuffing

  • 1 whole turkey 12–14 lbs, cleaned and patted dry
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2–3 tsp salt
  • 1–2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary chopped
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 stalks celery chopped
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth

Instructions

  • Rinse and pat dry the turkey. Rub it thoroughly with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Stuff the turkey cavity with chopped onion, celery, thyme, and rosemary for rich flavor.
  • Mix the remaining herbs and broth in a bowl to create a simple stuffing base. Spoon some into the cavity without overfilling.
  • Prepare your grill or campfire for indirect heat. Place the turkey on a tray or over foil to prevent burning.
  • Cook the turkey slowly for about 3 hours, turning occasionally. Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  • Once cooked, remove from the grill and let rest for 20 minutes before carving.
  • Serve hot with sides like mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, and cranberry sauce for a complete outdoor Thanksgiving meal.

Notes

Keep your ingredients prepped ahead for convenience. Store leftovers in airtight containers in a cooler or fridge for up to 3 days. For extra flavor, baste occasionally with broth or melted butter while cooking. Great for both camping trips and backyard Thanksgiving gatherings!
