  • 1 cup granulated sugar Add one tablespoon at a time while mixing.
  • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar Stabilizes the egg whites.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavoring.

Decorations

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients and tools. Ensure your mixing bowl is clean and dry.
  • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Meringue Preparation

  • In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites using an electric mixer on medium speed until foamy.
  • Add the cream of tartar and continue whipping until soft peaks form.
  • Gradually add the granulated sugar one tablespoon at a time while the mixer runs on high speed.
  • Continue beating until the mixture reaches stiff peaks and appears glossy.
  • Gently stir in the vanilla extract to incorporate.

Piping and Baking

  • Transfer the meringue into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  • Pipe the meringue into tree shapes on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Before placing in the oven, sprinkle edible glitter and mini candies on the piped shapes.
  • Bake for about 1.5 hours until dry to the touch and easily lifted off the parchment.

Notes

Store meringues in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Avoid refrigerating to maintain crunch. Can be customized for various diets, including vegan by using aquafaba.
