Ingredients
  

For the Donuts

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 tsp White vinegar
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 large Eggs
  • ¾ cup Granulated sugar
  • ½ cup Dark brown sugar
  • 6 tbsp Melted butter
  • 10-15 drops Red food coloring Adjust for desired color

For the Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 4 oz Cream cheese (softened)
  • 4 oz Unsalted butter (room temp)
  • ¾ cup Powdered sugar
  • 5 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • In a separate cup, mix the buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and white vinegar.
  • In another large bowl, beat the melted butter, granulated sugar, and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Gradually alternate adding the dry ingredients and the wet mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Add the red food coloring and mix to achieve a vibrant color.
  • Transfer the batter into a pastry bag or Ziploc bag and pipe the batter into the donut cavities, filling them about 3/4 full.

Baking

  • Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for about 9 minutes or until they spring back when lightly touched.
  • Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Glazing

  • In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, unsalted butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Top with sprinkles or nuts if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container. These donuts can be frozen; thaw them in the microwave or oven before serving.
