  • 1 lb roast beef, sliced
  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ¼ cup au jus seasoning mix
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted for brushing the tops

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients in one place, ensuring the roast beef is sliced thinly.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Assembly

  • Slice the French bread into 1-2 inch squares.
  • Layer a few slices of roast beef on one square of bread, followed by a piece of provolone cheese, and place another square of bread on top.
  • Repeat until all ingredients are used, placing the assembled layers on a baking sheet.

Au Jus Preparation

  • Mix the beef broth with the au jus seasoning in a mixing bowl, stirring well.
  • Pour the au jus mixture over the assembled squares.

Baking

  • Brush the tops of each square with melted butter for a golden finish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the bread is golden and the cheese has melted.

Serving

  • Let the squares cool slightly before serving, and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

For best results, store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. These can also be frozen for 2-3 months.
