  • 1 lb ground beef lean preferred
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 can condensed French onion soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 cup uncooked long grain rice not instant
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese for topping
  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil for sautéing

  • ½ tsp garlic powder optional seasoning
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, rice, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and cover tightly with foil.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  • Remove foil, top with shredded cheese, and bake uncovered for 5–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley or crispy onions if desired.

Notes

You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef. For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or top with French-fried onions before baking.
