  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup caramelized onions Make sure they are cooled slightly before adding.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs Use gluten-free if needed.
  • 0.25 cup milk Substitute with almond or oat milk for dairy-free.
  • 1 piece egg Use a flax egg for vegan option.
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Gather all ingredients to prep your workspace.

Cooking

  • Caramelize the onions over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until golden brown and soft, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, cooled caramelized onions, shredded cheese, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and black pepper.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce and mix gently until combined.
  • Shape the meat mixture into a loaf in a greased baking dish.
  • Bake for 60 to 70 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Remove from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. For longer storage, wrap slices in plastic wrap and foil and freeze for 2-3 months.
