Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces, dice the onion finely, and keep your canned tomatoes ready.

Cook the Base

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks (5-7 minutes).
  • Once the beef is no longer pink, add the diced onion and sauté until translucent (3-4 minutes).

Drain Excess Fat

  • Carefully drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the dish from becoming greasy.

Add Cabbage and Tomatoes

  • Incorporate the chopped cabbage and canned diced tomatoes into the skillet, stir well, and let it all cook together for 5-8 minutes until the cabbage begins to soften.

Stir in Taco Seasoning

  • Sprinkle in the taco seasoning, mixing thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are coated. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cabbage is tender but still has a bit of crunch.

Melt the Cheese

  • Once the cabbage has cooked down, sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top of the mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it sit for an extra 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese.

Prepare Fritos Topping

  • Prepare Fritos either by sprinkling them over the top right before serving or by serving them on the side.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove from heat when the cheese is melted and everything is heated through. Serve immediately and consider garnishing with fresh herbs.
