Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for frosting

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Gather all your ingredients.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cream Sugar and Butter

  • In another mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Combine Ingredients

  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix well.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Spread the cookie dough evenly in a greased or parchment-lined baking pan.

Bake

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool and Frost

  • Allow the baked bars to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Mix together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the frosting until smooth.
  • Spread the frosting over cooled bars and let it set before cutting.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze cut bars in a single layer in a freezer-safe container for up to three months.
