Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and measure them out in advance for a smoother process.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Once yeast is activated, add flour, olive oil, minced garlic, grated Parmesan, and salt. Mix until a slightly sticky dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into equal parts for shaping.
  • Shape each piece into a snowflake design by forming circles and cutting slits for the arms. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  • Let shaped dough rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Brush tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle extra Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Store in an airtight container. For best results, consume within a couple of days, or freeze for longer storage. Add fresh herbs for extra flavor or try different cheese blends for a twist.
