For the Frosting

  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 6 oz. cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons molasses
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by ensuring your workspace is clean and organized.
  • Gather all your ingredients and tools—mixing bowls, measuring cups, rolling pin, and baking dish.

Making the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and brown sugar. Allow it to bloom for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Incorporate the eggs, softened butter, molasses, and vanilla extract. Mix until blended well.

Adding Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and ground ginger.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough begins to form.

Kneading the Dough

  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Adjust the flour if the dough is too sticky.

Letting the Dough Rise

  • Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours or until it has doubled in size.

Preparing the Filling

  • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, ground ginger, and softened butter until it forms a paste-like consistency.

Rolling Out the Dough

  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove air bubbles.
  • Roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

Spreading the Filling

  • Evenly spread the filling mixture over the rolled-out dough, making sure to get to the edges.

Rolling and Slicing

  • Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  • Slice it into 12-15 equal pieces.

Second Rise and Bake

  • Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during this time.
  • Once risen, bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Making the Frosting

  • Prepare the frosting by combining softened cream cheese, butter, molasses, ground ginger, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl.
  • Beat until smooth and creamy.

Frosting and Serving

  • Once the rolls are baked, allow them to cool slightly before smothering them in the luscious frosting.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!
