Sushi Ingredients

  • 1 cup sushi rice Rinsed under cold water
  • 1.5 cups water Used for cooking rice
  • 1 can tuna 5 oz, drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise Can be substituted with avocado or vegan mayo
  • 1-2 teaspoons sriracha Adjust according to spice preference
  • 1 medium cucumber Thinly sliced
  • 4 sheets nori Seaweed sheets for rolling
  • optional black sesame seeds For garnish
  • optional edible ink markers For decoration

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and tools including a pot or rice cooker, bamboo sushi mat, sharp knife, and mixing bowl.
  • Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine rice and water in a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes. Let sit covered for another 10 minutes to cool down.

Filling Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, and sriracha. Mix until smooth.

Assemble Sushi

  • Lay a bamboo mat flat and place a sheet of nori on it, shiny side down.
  • With wet hands, spread a handful of sushi rice evenly across the nori, leaving an inch at the top edge.
  • In the center of the rice, spread the tuna mayo mixture and arrange cucumber slices on top.
  • Roll the sushi tightly but gently from the bottom edge using the mat to help guide it.
  • Slice the roll with a sharp, wet knife into 6-8 pieces and arrange on a platter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Optionally, use edible ink markers to draw designs on the sushi rolls.

Serving

  • Serve Halloween Sushi with soy sauce or any preferred dipping sauces.

Notes

Store any unused sushi in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days. Best served fresh and cold. Avoid rolling sushi too tightly and ensure rice is cooled to prevent sogginess.
