  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients, ensuring that the butter is softened to room temperature.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Mixing

  • Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Beat in the large egg and the vanilla extract until fully combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined; do not overmix.

Shaping

  • If adding color, divide the dough and mix in food coloring.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut out shapes with a heart-shaped cookie cutter.

Baking

  • Place the heart-shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
