Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups fresh cranberries Rinse and check for quality.
  • 4 cups peeled and diced apples (Fuji or Gala) Ensure the apples are sweet.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust based on sweetness preference.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional) Enhances flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by rinsing the cranberries under cold water to remove any dirt. Discard any that are soft or blemished.
  • Peel and dice your apples, removing the cores and seeds before chopping them into uniform pieces.

Cooking

  • In a large pot, combine the cleaned cranberries, diced apples, sugar, and water. Stir to combine all the ingredients.
  • Place the pot on the stove over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Once bubbling, wait for the cranberries to burst, which will help release pectin for a thicker sauce.
  • Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Once the cranberries have burst open and the apples are soft, stir in the optional cinnamon.
  • Use a potato masher for a chunky sauce or a blender for a smoother texture after cooling slightly.

Finishing

  • Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring it to your serving dish or storage containers.
  • Serve it warm or chilled. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
