Ingredients

Basic Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat or gluten-free flour.
  • ½ cup granulated sugar Brown sugar or coconut sugar can be used as substitutes.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ cup milk Almond milk or oat milk can be used for a dairy-free version.
  • 2 large eggs Flax eggs can be used as a vegan substitute.
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted Coconut oil or dairy-free butter can be used as substitutes.
  • as needed Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted unsalted butter until fully combined.
  • Gently pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; over-mixing can lead to tough donuts.
  • In a deep pan, add vegetable oil and heat it to 375°F (190°C).
  • Transfer the batter into a piping bag or a zip-lock bag with the corner cut off. Pipe the batter into the hot oil, forming donut shapes.

Cooking

  • Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown.
  • Once golden brown, remove the donuts from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Let your donuts cool. Prepare a simple glaze using powdered sugar and a bit of milk or your favorite icing.
  • Drizzle or dip the cooled donuts, adding sprinkles or toppings as desired.

Serving

  • Serve your warm homemade Krispy Kremes to family and friends.

Notes

Cooking in batches ensures your oil temperature stays consistent.
