Ingredients
  

Casserole Base

  • 1 loaf French bread, cubed Fresh is preferable for a fluffy texture.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy alternative) Substitute with almond, soy, or oat milk if needed.
  • ½ cup sugar Can substitute with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) Fresh or frozen can be used.
  • Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving, optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Cube the French bread into 1-inch pieces and spread it evenly in the greased baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
  • Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes ensuring all pieces are well-soaked.
  • Gently fold in the mixed berries.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Baking

  • Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes until golden-brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving, and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Serving

  • Serve warm, offering extra berries or syrup on the side.

Notes

This dish is ideal for meal prep; make it the night before and bake in the morning. You can also customize it by adding nuts, using gluten-free bread, or chocolate chips for variation.
