Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool the cake for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.

Notes

This cake is highly adaptable—add citrus zest, almond extract, or chocolate chips for variation. Serve plain or with whipped cream, ice cream, or fresh fruit.
