Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water Temperature should be around 110°F.
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

Topping Ingredients

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Ensure that the water is warm but not hot, roughly 110°F.
  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let them sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.
  • Once the yeast is frothy, add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Stir until a rough dough begins to form.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide into small pieces, roll each into a rope and tie into a knot.
  • Place knots on a greased baking sheet.
  • Mix the melted butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Brush over each knot.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

These garlic knots can be served with marinara sauce for dipping and are customizable. Try adding herbs or different cheeses for variations.
