Ingredients
  

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 3 tbsp milk add 1 extra tablespoon if dough is too dry
  • colored sugar or sprinkles for decoration

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  • Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. Add milk one tablespoon at a time if needed to form a soft dough.
  • Roll dough into small balls or use cookie cutters to form shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheets and flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  • Sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles before baking for a festive touch.
  • Bake 8–10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Do not overbake to maintain softness.
  • Cool cookies on baking sheets for 2–3 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage. For a vegan option, substitute butter with coconut oil and use a flax egg. To elevate the flavor, add a pinch of salt or dip cookies in melted chocolate once cooled.
