Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz pasta (your choice, such as penne or spaghetti)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot, depending on your preference)
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (extra for serving if desired)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Measure out the pasta, sausage, marinara sauce, and cheese. Mince the garlic and set it aside.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve a bit of pasta water for later.
  • In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until hot.
  • Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté it for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up as it cooks, until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Once browned, stir in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Drain the pasta and add it directly to the sauce mixture, tossing to coat well.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
  • Stir in grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

Feel free to pair the pasta with a light side salad or garlic bread. For dietary preferences, consider gluten-free pasta or plant-based sausage alternatives.
